Dear list,
   
     What are your opinions on clearing the c-spine in the unexaminable
pt? If the initial w/u is neg. ( plain films + ct, CT alone etc.) do you
persue further studies to r/o ligametous injury or do you d/c the
c-collar at that point?? To better claify, we are talking about a pt who
you do not feel you can get a clinical exam on in the near future i.e
head trauma, prolonged intubation etc. I typically MRI the pt. at or
about day 5 post injury before d/c'ing the collar. Any literature
supporting your various views would be greatly appreciated.
