Giles,

If you are already EMT, you have a great base of knowledge for PHTLS.
The course is designed as an add on to the knowledge already gained as an
EMT or Medic. The majority of knowledge gained in the course is related
to understanding Mechanism Of Injury, and the physiologic response. For
example, not just that you use compression for an unstable pelvis, but
WHY you use compression. Another big aspect of PHTLS is spinal
precautions, and spinal clearance.

If you pay close attention in the class, you should have no problems at
all, it is well organized, and very inclusive. As a military medic, I
have taken and instructed PHTLS, and have found much of the knowledge
gained in that class very helpful in many situations.

Let me know how it goes.

  Hi

I am due to take the PHTLS course next month. I am currently awaiting
  the course material.

I am just wondering what i should expect from the course what
workstations were offered and wether there are any specific things i
need to be preped for, i understand each centre is different but i am
just trying to get the broad overview of peoples experience.

  regards

  Giles
