First of all, there is really not a specialty of trauma surgery. A "trauma
surgeon" is one trained in a primary surgical discipline (General Surgery in
the West and EAST, and an orthopedic surgeon in some parts of Europe).
The surgeon should do the things that they usually do, and NOT merely do
"trauma" cases. For a surgeon to merely do trauma cases will be painting
themselves into a corner and limiting their practice. A person who limits their
practice and becomes a shift worker, becomes a tradesman, and distances
themselves from the professional guild.
