What role do you think the Advanced Trauma Operative Management Course
(started by Len Jacobs et al in Hartford) plays in these discussions, if any?
I truly believe that the basic courses like ATLS, ACLS, PALS, etc should be
kept completely separate from the advanced procedure courses such as those for
vascular, trauma, acute care and general surgeons. The audiences and
purposes are totally different. At the recent ACS COT meeting much time was
spent in heated discussion much of it confusing the focus and mission of the
ATLS vs the surgical procedural courses. Fort the later, my own view is that
the best course is the traditional general surgery residency.
