ccml Does Evil Exist / Hmmmm...hoax?

Is interesting that question, I mean "why bad things happen to good people?"
How do we define good or bad?
Who is good and who is bad?
Why don't ask "why good things happen to bad people?"
According to the orthodox Christian view we all are bad. An the God of the Bible in JesusChrist came to save sinners...meaning bad people.

But is this thread appropriate for a critical care listserve? Is the next
debate going to be "If God is responsible for every good thing, then why do
bad things happen to good people?".

We all cope with finding meaning in life our own ways. Can we leave it at
that?

Reuben,

God forgive me for what I am about to say, but you opened this door, not
I...........

It appears that it would be your ignorance that has lead YOU to ignore
Pret's message when he said "may we all be happier and healthier and kinder
to one another". Somehow, the manner in which you reference Pret's "BS
philosophys" hardly speaks to kindness, let alone tolerance and
understanding, nor does it allow for the credibility of any view but yours.

And while on the subject of tolerance, how about your quote: "There is a
higher power and His name is God. To us was born His Son, Jesus Christ who
shed His blood for our sins (sins such as the ignorance displayed in the
'ccml Does Evil Exist / Hmmmm...hoax? coversation'). Regardless of the fact
that you're ignornance refuses to acknowledge His presence, every good thing
that happens in this world is because He allows it".

Where, in your way of thinking, is there any room for the Jews and Muslims
of this world who most certainly do not share your views as to the
organization or practice religion? Hmmmmm.................

I would like to comment on this conversation about higher powers and
religion, specifically comments made by a Pret Bjorn. You know its this
modern worlds ignorance and selfishness that is leading to its demise.
There is a higher power and His name is God. To us was born His Son, Jesus
Christ who shed His blood for our sins (sins such as the ignorance displayed
in the 'ccml Does Evil Exist / Hmmmm...hoax? coversation').
Regardless of the fact that you're ignornance refuses to acknowledge His
presence, every good thing that happens in this world is because He allows
it. So please keep your BS philosophys to yourself. We need to not only
accept God's power in our lives but also enforce it in others lives. Without
God's moral laws implemented into our brains and our nations, we would not
have a justice system in this world. Where do you think laws against crimes
come from? A rock? Haha, LOL. Lets use our brains, that we recieved from
God.

I wish everyone a happy new year and God's many Blessings!!
Reuben

Always a stimulating read, Charles. Welcome to the Philosophy-List.

Not that I disagree very much; except that mankind's eagerness to interpret
(much less enforce) any higher power's intentions strikes me more as pure
arrogance -- and an original sin if ever there was one.

Nor am I certain, for that matter, that religion is any prerequisite for the
determination of what is good or evil. Quite the contrary: I think it is
the regrettable nature of organized religion to leverage ethics and morality
for its own purposes. See paragraph #1.

Here's wishing that 2007 finds humanity seeking redemption through reason.
And while we're at it, may we all be happier and healthier and kinder to one
another. Seems to me that we leave too much of the blessing to our gods,
and take too little responsibility for it ourselves.

I'm always grateful for the friends and advice I find here on the
Trauma-List. Happy New Year to all.
