Dr Mattox
Thank you for reminding me - us of our obligation to share information.
In my area the trauma system includes plans for burn surge capacity.
My hospital did not receive burn patients.
The effetc the fires have had on my hospital pertain to staffing. Many of our staff and staff nurses live in areas affected. A needs assessment was completed and staffing contingency plans were on standby.
The Trauma Managers Association of California just met today. The San Diego folks were on alert.
This isn't much info for all... But its a start and we can add from here
Regards
Heidi

Subject: California Fires - Hospital Closures & Evacuations
For the benefit of information and future
planning..........................................
I am aware of ONE burn center having to close because of saturation.
Were there other burn center closures between Mexico and Malibu?
I am not aware of any HOSPTAL closures, although there is a rumor that TWO
hospitals had to be totally evacuated. Does anyone know if such hospital
evacuations were required.
Hospital evacuations are relatively rare, so lessons learned would be of
importance to others on this list.
