The effetc the fires have had on my hospital pertain to staffing. Many of
our staff and staff nurses live in areas affected. A needs assessment was
completed and staffing contingency plans were on standby.
Heidi: This one fact is OFTEN overlooked. During any natural disaster the
medical staff persons are affected at the same rate as the general
population. Day care centers and animal shelters are often closed. In addition to
personal property, many hospital personnel have jparents, children, and pets
which have NO OTHER OPTION but for the staff to stay at home from work.
Plans must include consideration for essential, near essential, and must be at
home categories.
Thank you for reminding us of this fact.
