we only use for symptomatic hyponatremia. It was difficult to get med exec committee to approve even for that.? they? and the P and T committee looked into it and found to many complications to use on a routine basis

Subject: Hypertonic Saline
Dear List Members,
A new partner has joined our trauma team and she has
great faith in Hypertonic saline, not only for
resuscitation, but also for regular maintenance fluid
for patients with head injuries as well as for all
sorts of other critically ill surgical patients.
I have not been able to find any hard data on this and
I and my other partners are having a difficult time
accepting this management.
Any comments, education, references would be highly
appreciated.
Thank you
Sanjay Gupta
