Simple: Seldinger and other techniques ARE NOT FOR TRAUMA!!!!!!! These devices were designed for the treatment of spontaneous PNEUMOthorax and we know that even the smallest amount of blood will clog them up, since the lumen diameter is too small.

Wheneever we've been sent trauma patients with these placed by other "non-trauma" hospitals there has been complications.

There is definitely something to be said for the ATLS method.

Subject: Chest tube devices

Dear List Members:

I am looking for information and feedback from those of you who have used or
have experience with newer chest tube devices ( seldinger technique vs other
percutaneous method) vs the traditional method of insertion.

Any comment on techniques or devices is welcome.

Please feel free to respond off list if you prefer.
