Mike,
We have a dedicated T-10 room that is an OR resuscitation suite. We do have strict criteria fo its use-but really boils down to high likelihood of needing an operation. We use this room on average 80-100 times a year. I looked at our outcomes and found that there was a statistical improvement in outcome compared to calculated probablility of survival--unlike patients who were not "T-10" patients. In those patients, outcomes were comparable to those predicted. Having been in institutions with and without this capability--I am a believer.

Subject: Operating Room Resusctiations
Question for my colleagues and friends.
We abdandoned Operating Room Resuscitations (OR Resus) because we found
it to be an unecessary waste of valuable OR time and personnel
resources. Like many centers, we have the OR crew respond to the
resusciation room and perform thoracotomy, rarely laparotomy with
packing, and even more rarely, stat C-section.
What are your thoughts on OR resus vs. trauma resusciatiton room for
unstable patients? If you use OR resus, what are your criteria and your
observations on practicality and efficiency?
Thanks,
Mike Sise San Diego
