We recently added 2 acute care surgeons to the general surgery team.
They are primarily responsible for emergency surgical consults and
transfers.

To all trauma.org-istas,
Who does acute care surgery at your center? Is it done by mainstream
general surgeons, trauma/critical care surgeons, or dedicated non trauma
hospitalist surgeons? What percentage of the acute care surgery
(Emergency Department surgical consults and in-hospital emergency
surgical consults) is done by each category?
The Acute Care Surgical boards are coming and may be limited to only
surgeons who cover trauma/critical care in addition to providing
emergency general surgery services. Do you agree with this or should
there be access to boards for non-trauma general surgeons?

San Diego
