Drs. Hammond, Molino, and Mattox,

There is not even the lamest pretense of trauma-relevance here. Even
allowing for references to Hillary Clinton.

If you want to discuss the impact of various payer models on trauma
care, have at it: there's plenty of room for debate and criticism in all
directions; but let's not turn this into a Faux Noise blog. Trust me:
the current administration's contributions to trauma systems is not
pretty either.

I did receive an interesting missive from the National Foundation for
Trauma Care today, detailing Senate Bill 2319 and HR 5942, in support of
a National Trauma Center Stabilization Act. The bills propose $100
million-plus in federal funding assistance for US trauma centers.
That's less than 10% of the GOP-sponsored tax exemption for any one of
the major petroleum producers...

Regarding Don's speculations (below), I can not imaging Hillary
Clinton wanting to accept a Supreme Court seat. Justices have too many
restrictions on what they can and can not do, and she is far too
outspoken (and frankly, self-centered) to be content in such a role.

Secretary of HHS sounds nice, but really has no power, a limited
scope (e.g. education would be outside her purview), a budget under
pressure, and little clout (quick, name one major or lasting
accomplishment of former Sec'y Donna Shalala or current Sec'y Leavitt).
Hillary will angle for a role that a) enhances her power (? senate
majority leader after Harry Reid), and b) keeps her positioned for a
Presidential campaign in 2016 (that's assuming Obama wins; if he loses,
she's the candidate for 2012 with an "I-told-you-so" campaign). This
isn't over for her.

Obama's choice for Supreme Court justice when the next opening occurs.

prophecy, the sky won't fall and will continue to be blue on some days
and cloudy on others.

significant change in US healthcare, including an increased Federal
role.
